frequently asked questions

Here is a list of frequently asked questions.

Here you will find answers to questions that may arise during navigation on the site. It may include uploading audio files, our different services, etc. Cheat sheets on how to upload calls to the website can be found in the box on the right side of the page.

What do I need to provide when creating my account?

To receive and process your order, you need to provide a complete invoice address when creating your account. Alternatively, if you are taking a course and have been given a booking reference by your supervisor, you can enter this under invoice address (booking references start with H followed by a number, such as H123). Without this information, we cannot code your call.

Under Invoice address, you also need to enter a Reference person, i.e., the person who receives and pays the invoice.

Under Corporate registration number, enter the organization number for the organization or company that pays for the coding. If you are an individual, you can enter your social security number.

If you order multiple codings from your account that different people or organizations pay for, you can change the information you provided when creating the account when ordering coding for a single call.

I did not receive a password when I requested a new password

Sometimes the email with your password ends up in your spam folder. Check there and contact us if you can't find it.

I have submitted calls for coding but have not received any feedback

Have you made a booking? If you want one or more calls to be coded by a certain date, these codings must be booked in advance by phone or email (see MIC Lab's phone hours under Contact). Uncoded calls are coded as time permits.

Did you provide your booking reference when ordering coding on the website? When ordering your coding through the website, you need to enter your booking reference or a complete invoice address for uncoded calls. Unfortunately, without this information, we cannot code your call.

What is a target behavior?

A target behavior is the behavior of the client that you, as a therapist, are trying to influence in a certain direction, e.g., 'Quit smoking'.

Where can I find my coding report on the website?

When you are logged in to MIC Lab's website, you will find your report under 'My Codings'. There you can generate the report as a PDF document and then print it.

I can't upload my audio file

Have you checked that your audio file is in mp3, wav, ogg, wma, 3gp, m4a, mp4, or amr format? If yes, have you checked that your audio file is a maximum of 300 MB? If it still doesn't work, it may be because your internet connection is slow. Try again, but be prepared for it to take some time if your audio file is large and/or your internet connection is slow.

What happens to my audio file after coding?

The audio file is available for 60 days, after which the file is automatically deleted from MIC Lab's web server. Research calls are exempt from deletion. If you want your audio file to be available for longer than 60 days, you can adjust this under 'My Audio Files'.

Consent form

The therapy session is recorded on audio recording and sent to Motivational Interviewing Coding Laboratory (MIC Lab) AB for coding of calls. By coding the therapist's utterances in the call, the therapist's competence in motivational interviewing (MI) is assessed based on the research-based coding manual for MI; Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity Code (MITI). If there is a need to obtain consent for call recordings, you can use the template at the link below.

Ordering coding

You can only upload audio files in various file formats, including mp3, wav, ogg, wma, 3gp, m4a, mp4, and amr.

1. Go to www.miclab.se

2. Click on 'create new account'. Fill in all the details and then click 'create new account'

3. When you create a new account, you will be automatically logged in to the website

You will then be taken to the 'Important things to consider' page. Please go through that page before proceeding. To upload an audio file and order codings, click 'Order a new coding'.

When you click 'Order a new coding', you will see an order form. Enter the details for the coding you desire:
- Enter the coding service you want to order from the dropdown menu
- Enter the call name, e.g., Per Pålson recording no. 1
- Enter where you want the coding to start and end (e.g., 0-20 minutes)
- Enter the call's Change Goal (Target Behavior) or, if you are ordering coding of client-centered talk, enter a visit reason.
- If you want specific feedback on any variables or similar, you can enter this under Additional Information

Upload an audio file

If you want to order coding on an audio file that you have already uploaded, click 'Old file', otherwise leave 'New file' filled in. Click 'Choose file'. A window will open where you can search for your recorded audio file on your own hard drive or USB memory. When you find the file, click on it and then click 'open'. Then click 'add' in the lower right corner. Make sure not to include any personal information in the call that could identify the client (name, social security number, address, and telephone number).

Provide billing details

If the order is pre-booked, enter your booking number (e.g., A111) (We will then use the address provided at the time of booking for invoicing the completed coding). If the order is not pre-booked, tick the box 'order is not pre-booked'. You can read more about our booking rules on the website. The invoice address is automatically fetched from the information you provided when creating your account. If you want to change it, fill in the corrected details.

Click 'Order coding'

When the audio file has uploaded, you will be taken to a new page where we have summarized the information about your order. Your order will be assigned an order number, which you can provide if you call with questions about your order. If you have ordered a service that requires you to provide a printout of your call, you can upload the printout at the bottom of this page.

When the coding is complete, you will receive an email to the address you provided when creating an account with us.

4. You can find the coding report under 'My Codings'

There you can export the coding report as a PDF and then print it. When the coding is complete, you can also choose to share the coding with your supervisor. This means that the supervisor will have access to the coding report and audio file.

Click the 'Share coding with your Supervisor' button, a new window will open. Enter the name of your supervisor/trainer, then click 'Share coding with your Supervisor'.

Now the coding has been shared with your supervisor.
